 The role of the Master is to ensure the safe and efficient management of the vessel to the satisfaction of the owners and the charterer and to act as the company representative.

 Responsibilities

 The responsibilities of the Master include the Health and Safety and Welfare of all personnel working on the offshore installation and the protection of the environment.

 The Master is responsible for the operation of the vessel, the gangway and all other plant and equipment within safe limits and in accordance with the terms of the contract. He is the clients and the diving operators contact person onboard in connection with any contract. He will notify the owner of the consequences of deviating from the contract requirements and at no time shall he agree to any deviation without advising the owner.

 He is responsible for maintaining operational records and files onboard and for ensuring that the certification is always kept up to date.

 The Master is responsible for the implementation of the shipboard Management System. He shall, without delay, report to the Company possible modifications that he considers necessary to ensure safety and environmental protection. He is also responsible for regularly reviewing the system with a view to identifying and recommending improvements. A record of Masters Reviews shall be maintained onboard and is part of the Company Management Review.

 The function of the Master is to evaluation all situations, whether normal or of an emergency nature and to take proper actions to avoid or minimise potential damages or losses, with special regards to life.

 All decisions and actions should be based on the safety of personnel and equipment and to further the interests of the company and the client.

 The Master has the overall responsibility for the safety and integrity of the vessel and for the safety and discipline of the persons onboard.

 The Master shall assist Company Management in the following activities;

• Review proposed anchor plans and (un) mooring procedures
• Liaise with the CHO to ensure that all the necessary mooring equipment is onboard
• Complete necessary paperwork on completion of a move
• Review "as laid” mooring plans and data

During anchor handling, the Master is in sole charge of the anchor handling operations, in conjunction with clients Marine Rep and Master of the AHV’s. He shall ensure that;

Before any operation, a meeting has been held in order that all parties concerned are aware, fully briefed and acknowledge their responsibilities
Master of the AHV’s are aware of their tasks
The Survey package and vessels radar’s are fully operational
Before anchor is set that all parties are in agreement on its position
Guide an AHV at any time of the operation as he sees fit
He does not alter the proposed laid down positions without first advising the office.

Authority

 The Master is directly responsible to the General Manager. He reports on daily operational issues to the Operations Manager, on matters concerning Marine Personnel to the Marin Personnel Administrator, on safety and quality matters to the Compliance Manager. The Master should always inform the DPA on concerns regarding safety and emergency procedures.
