Chief Engineer - Self Elevating Liftboat Based in Offshore Discipline Marine | Vessel Engineering Contract type Contract and Staff Closing date 31/12/2011 Vacancy ref 49640 Mobilisation date ASAP Assignment approximate duration Ongoing Vacancy details DESCRIPTION OF ROLE The Chief Engineer is responsible to the Vessel Master for the management of the Technical Department which includes; responsibility for the technical status of the ship, its machinery and propulsion systems, all technical equipment permanently installed on board and all marine technical equipment temporarily installed on board.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Safe and efficient running of the Technical Department, including permanently installed auxiliary equipment (lay-equipment, MHS, etc. as applicable). To keep the ship, machinery and specialist equipment permanently installed on board in a technically sound condition ready for operations. Maintenance of machinery and permanently installed specialist equipment. Technical maintenance of the ship's cranes and other assets Technical maintenance of ship's critical asset wire ropes Maintenance of stores, spares and equipment necessary for the technical department and specialist equipment. Fuel and lubricants (ordering/purchasing as approved by the Master) Follow up of the planned maintenance system. Act as Leader of fire-fighting within their department. Shipboard training/familiarisation and assessment of officers and other crew members within their department. Provide services as requested by the Project Team or as instructed by the Captain. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health in their department. Garbage and waste management according to internal and external requirements. Responsible for maintaining ship's security within their department (in port and at sea). Responsible for providing assistance to the Project Team as instructed by the Captain. Assist the Master in conducting "Master's Review" in accordance with the ISM code. Responsible, within their field of influence and authority, to the Master to ensure that their department's operational and investment costs are kept within the Marine Assets approved budget for their department. They shall also assist the Master in drawing up budget proposals for their department.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
STCW 95 (A-II/2) Certificate of Competency (Engineer Officer I Unlimited) meeting legislative requirements of the Flag State Recognised Seaman's discharge book Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing in accordance with STCW Code Table A-II/I Fully conversant with Flag State Maritime Law / Legislation. Fully conversant with ship's Safety Management System (Ref: ISM Code) Completed Security Awareness training relevant for the position (Ref: ISPS Code)
Experience of working as either a Senior Engineer or Chief Engineer on self-elevating liftboars is a pre-requisite for this position.
