Our client, an internationally renowned drilling contractor is now seeking a qualified and experienced Captain to join their fleet of drillship operations.
The Captain holds ultimate authority and discretion to take whatever actions are required to ensure safety of the crew and vessel and protection of the environment, and supervises the marine department in support of rig operations onboard offshore drill ships.
THE ROLE Marine Operations Responsible for the safety of the crew and vessel and protection of the environment through effective control of the rig and vessel operations in compliance with international and local maritime laws and regulations. Ensures that all rig stability criteria is maintained. Directly supervises rig moves and station keeping operations. Monitors all operations potentially impacting seaworthiness of the rig; ensures all operations are in accordance with Company procedures and maritime regulations. Ensure the watertight integrity of the rig is maintained at all times. Ensures material and equipment are properly secured for all sea and weather conditions. Ensures safe helicopter operations are conducted. Ensures that all vessels that come alongside the rig are safe and functional. Reviews and approves work permits for fuel loading and any vessel that may be secured to the rig. Communicates with the Chief Engineer regarding loading, storage, and usage of fuel and water to maintain rig draft and trim within stability limits. Ensures navigational logs, all records, and all reports are maintained and submitted as required by Maritime Regulations and Marine Procedures. Manages rig surveys and the statutory certification process to ensure compliance to classification society requirements and maritime regulations. Ensures that all navigation and station keeping aids and equipment are maintained to a high operational standard at all times and in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations. Ensures that deck or marine system maintenance to equipment or structure is kept up to high standards of cleanliness, efficiency, and reliability. Checks that the marine personnel are trained in accordance with Company policies and statutory requirements; ensures Company and client training and certificate requirements are met and up-to-date at all times. Investigates all marine-related rig incidents; reports root causes and recommends corrective actions. Safety Participates in the Safety Training Observation Program (S.T.O.P) and the weekly and pre-tour safety meetings. Ensures the ISM regulations are in compliance. Develops and implements Job Safety Analyses and prepares risk assessments as required. In charge of the vessel and the emergency team in the event of a fire or other emergency; coordinates and participates in drills and exercises, including monitoring and evaluation of emergency team response as defined on the Station bill and by all maritime laws. Performs all duties in accordance with the Permit to Work System. Ensures that the Catering Company complies with all Company policy and performance requirements including high standards for hygiene, housekeeping and meal quality. General Management Provides input to the annual plan and budget; monitors budget to ensure cost-effective operations; reviews and approves all marine related rig expenses Provides required financial and operational reports and forecasts. Provides input and recommendations for the hiring, transfers, promotions, and terminations of rig personnel. Ensures the roles, responsibilities, accountabilities, and performance measures of direct reports are defined, understood, and enforced. Establishes goals and priorities with direct reports. Establishes a system of accountability and monitors the performance of direct reports. Reviews performance against unit measures; establishes initiatives with the team to achieve goals and objectives. Assesses the competencies of direct reports, coaches, mentors, and works with them to enhance required competencies. Develops and implements mechanisms to achieve effective communication, coordination of effort, information flow, and learning with direct reports. Conducts and oversees performance and salary reviews of direct reports on a timely basis. Ensures a high level of productivity, teamwork, and employee satisfaction among the marine department crew. Ensures rig supervisors are informed of any operational, maintenance, environmental, health, safety, training, and quality issues, and works with team or individual supervisors to develop and implement effective solutions. Ensures effective communication with Rig Superintendent, Rig Manager and other shore-based personnel.
THE APPLICANT Degree from a recognized Maritime Academy or University. Preferred candidate will have 5 or more years of experience in the offshore drilling industry. Preference is on a drill ship. Master License 95 II/2 , US Coast guard Unlimited tonnage license (46 CFR 10.402 & 10.404) Dynamic Positioning Operator Certificate.
