Our Client has an urgent requirement for a Ballast Control Operator.
RESPONSIBLE TO : MARINE SUPERVISOR
RESPONSIBLE FOR : Responsible to the Marine Supervisor, the primary role is watch keeping and ensuring all vessel systems are operated in a safe and efficient manner.
MAIN DUTIES : Assists the Marine Supervisor to carry out the following functions and activities: Responsible for 1st line maintenance where qualified or assists with maintenance work on marine systems. Ballasting, trim and stability of the vessel. Gas freeing tanks for entry. Ensures that the Wheelhouse remains manned during periods of poor weather. Monitors vessel status and reacts to changes in vessel systems. Ensures FPV position and heading is maintained, operating windlasses as required. Ensures accurate and legible data is recorded on movements of vessels, aircraft, personnel and materials. Responsible for isolation and preparation of equipment for maintenance. Responsible for completing verification assurance and routine activities and maintaining accurate records. Liaises, as required, with all departments involved in the operation of the vessel to minimise disruption vessel activities whilst ensuring safe air/sea traffic movements. Operates equipment associated with marine communications. Sends and receives messages to marine vessels. Informs, monitors and controls field activities of SBV and any other in field vessel.
EMERGENCY DUTIES : In the event of an emergency, carries out such duties as identified in the station bill/emergency response procedure or as directed by the OIM. Personnel are required to undertake the training to equip them for these roles.
QUALIFICATIONS : The listing of main responsibilities and main duties is not necessarily exhaustive and may be changed at Management’s discretion to reflect the needs of the Company. All personnel will be expected to assist other disciplines in their routine tasks as directed, in order to ensure that operational efficiency is maximised.

Acts responsibly and takes all necessary precautions to protect ones’ self, fellow workers and any other persons who may be affected by his activities from injury and preventable illness.
Ensures that any defects in working practices, machinery, tools, equipment, protective measures and protective clothing are immediately brought to the attention of management so that steps can be instigated to remedy the defect or take the equipment out of service until repaired or made safe.
